マツダのマレーシアの生産販売会社、マツダ・マレーシアは約23億円投じ、マツダ車専用の高意匠色用塗装工場を新設するとともに、車体工場の溶接工程の一部を自動化するなど生産体制を強化した。また、８月29日から現地組立している新型「マツダCX-５」を披露した。
これにより、マツダのマザー工場、宇品工場(広島県)や防府工場(山口県)と同等の技術を取り入れた体制となり、より高品質なマツダ車の生産を実現する。
マツダ・マレーシアで生産された新型CX-５は、従来の供給先である同国とタイに加え、今後フィリピン、インドネシア、カンボジア、ミャンマーなどに輸出される計画。
